Document archiving - paper files

Our imaging solutions cover a broad range of electronic imaging and digital scanning. We scan items as small as credit card receipts or as large as oversize maps and blueprints. Wherever, possible, we do batch scanning for digitizing. We have wide experience with difficult paper such as tissue or color copies and two-sided documents. Our range of specialized scanners permit us to always apply the specific equipment for a large backfile conversion or ongoing daily conversions. All valuable and fragile papers are evaluated and processed to assure proper care and accurate conversion

Digital Conversion Services

Micrographics solutions to migrate to digital

Our experience in digitzing micrographic media is unmatched. Film scanning quality follows from almost 30 years of workmanship. microMEDIA's microfilm & microfiche department and laboratory have handled hundreds of millions of microfilm images. When necessary, our processing laboratory personnel will evaluate microfilm flaws and recommend procedures to enhance the film before scanning.

Fiche formats are pre-scanned to evaluate the precise location of images prior to microfiche scanning. They are concurrently scanned, rotated, deskewed and despeckled. We have the capability to scan on a three shift schedule to minimize client turnaround time.

Our high speed film scanning equipment converts both 16mm and 35mm film. We can handle a wide spectrum of film reduction ratios. Our scanners are equipped with sophisticated image enhancement software that produces the highest possible quality electronic images.

Engineering drawings maintained in aperture cards are scanned on high speed automated Wicks & Wilson equipment. capable of up to 400dpi resolution. Keypunched (Hollerith) index information is captured and recorded simultaneously with the scanning. Typed cards are keyed manually.

Solutions to convert oversize documents

microMEDIA's scanning and conversion services for drawings include blueprints, mylars and drawings spanning "A" to "J" sizes. Although most clients request TIFF or Adobe PDF images, output is available in a variety of output formats including DWG, CALS and JEDMICS.

We scan engineering drawings at our facility in Lake Success in the suburbs of New York City or onsite at our client's locations. Our large staff provides the flexibility to do large backfile conversions as well as ongoing scanning of smaller volumes of work.

Indexing and file naming may just specify drawing and revision numbers or capture any data that is present on the drawings. Data capture may include reconciliation to extracts of an existing database, use of barcodes or manual data entry. Our least expensive approach is to securely encrypt images and sent the digital data offshore for keying and key verification. Alternatively, all indexing can be done right at the client's site or at microMEDIA's facility.

Rare documents

We convert fragile archival documents and bound volumes with meticulous professional handling to maintain document integrity. For old books and pamphlets, we use special purpose book cradles to avoid harming book spines. Depending upon the condition of the documents, we scan directly to digital form or microfilm the items and then scan the film. Our services are utilized by leading libraries, archives and universities.
