OCR Services
We utilize a number of different OCR scanning and conversion imaging packages and forms processing, each of which has its own strengths for certain types of documents. Currently, microMEDIA is a developer for ABBYY FineReader and OmniPage by Nuance. We are also extensive users of Lead Technologies Lead Tools and Adobe Acrobat Professional. Our experience over more than 20 years with OCR has taught us that the architecture of certain software engines makes them better for speed of conversion, large documents, color pages, poor quality originals, microfilm scanning, etc.
microMEDIA tailors data capture to the specific requirements of a project. We carefully analyze client needs and intensively test alternatives before recommending the conversion process.
Onsite OCR scanning is available for very sensitive or valuable documents. Entire documents or selected portions of a document are converted into digital form for full-text retrieval and returned to clients as Microsoft Word Documents or Excel files, text files, for import into their document management systems or hosted on our secure microMEDIA website.
While a broad range of OCR services are available, the widespread use of Adobe Acrobat containing hidden text which permits searching for words and phrases, is the most popular at present (2011).
Manual Data Entry
It is not always possible to automatically convert documents to digital form. Handwritten and poor quality documents are often more cost-effectively done by manual key entry and verification.
Our capabilities include low-cost high-capacity offshore ability to key directly from scanned images or from microfilm and microfiche. Of course, clients that prefer their work done in the U.S. will be keyed at our facility in Long Island. Data is always linked to database extracts if a database exists.

Further, all work done is validated for quality by microMEDIA's Quality Control Department prior to delivery to our customers.
