Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

We utilize a number of different OCR conversion software packages for our scanning services and forms processing, each of which has its own strengths for certain types of documents. Currently, microMEDIA is a developer for ABBYY FineReader and Lead Technologies Lead Tools. When appropriate, we utilize Adobe Acrobat Professional and OmniPage by Nuance. Our experience over more than 20 years of OCR has taught us that the architecture of certain software engines makes them better for speed of conversion, large documents, color pages, poor quality originals, microfilm scans, etc.

microMEDIA tailors data capture to the specific requirements of a project. We carefully analyze client needs and intensively test alternatives before recommending the conversion process.

Onsite OCR scanning services are available for very sensitive or valuable documents. Entire documents or selected portions of a document are converted into digital form and returned to clients for use in their document management systems or hosted on our secure microMEDIA website.

Extremely accurate OCR / ICR conversion is done by meticulous correction procedures and cleanup of OCR output by trained technicians. Output types include word processor format, spreadsheets, ASCII files and most database types.

Manual Data Entry

It is not always possible to automatically convert documents to digital form. Handwritten and poor quality documents are often more cost effectively done by manual key entry and verification.

Our capabilities include low-cost high-capacity offshore services to key directly from scanned images or from microfilm and microfiche. Keyed data is always linked to database extracts if a database exists.

microMEDIA has been a leading key entry marketplace for more than twenty-five years. Our infrastructure includes facilities in the Caribbean, Mexico, Venezuela and India. We insist on 100% key verification, which results in 99.95% accuracy of legible characters. Further, all work done by associates is validated for quality by microMEDIA's Quality Control Department prior to delivery to our customers.
